<p> A perfect introduction to blacksmithing as a craft, this course will cover the basic of heating and shaping steel, techniques that are present in all levels of blacksmithing.  In this weekend class students will be introduced to skills including tapering, shouldering, bending, punching, twisting, and upsetting.  Exposure to the pace of working the metal, understanding the forge and the tools used will provide the beginner the interest and experience to take blacksmithing further.</p>

<p>In Basic Bronze Casting, participants will learn the basics of making a pattern, constructing a sand mold, and bronze casting and finishing techniques utilizing the foundry and a variety of materials. The workshop is open to all levels of experience. Over the course of the workshop, each student will create up to a 12 pound bronze sculpture.</p>
<p>In Advanced Bronze Casting students may cast larger and more complicated patterns and the size limit for the final bronze casting is 50 pounds (larger castings may be made with instructor approval). In this class, students will learn more about the finishes and patinas of their bronze castings. Requirements for this class are completion of a previous Basic Bronze Casting class. Students with prior casting experience are also welcome to enroll, by permission of the instructor&#8211;call the Louisiana ArtWorks office to inquire.</p>

<p>Digital production and distribution processes have dramatically changed how artists work in film and video. New, ever-expanding toolsets present different conceptual and aesthetic choices to artists. This panel in the &#8220;Art Sessions: A Series of Discussions on Visual Contemporary Art&#8221; series will present and discuss contemporary trends and issues in video art with an emphasis on the influence that digital processes have on the form, content, and presentation of time-based media.</p>

Learn to carve relief blocks for block printing patterns on fabric or large paper.  The first class will involve planning, drawing, and carving relief blocks. The second class will be devoted to printing. Students should bring image source materials (books, magazines, natural elements-leaves, twigs, stones, photos) to class. Students will design, carve and print a small linoleum cut. This workshop will emphasize low-tech methods.
